Basically what I want this game to be is a fun way to cycle and push myself into better physical shape. The game would be played with a phone attached to the bike. I have a Trek Powerfly 4 e-bike that's my only way of getting to places, and I have been using the higher assistance modes a lot. I'd like the game to push me towards getting more exercise out of it.

In this initial, very rough version, I have managed to get live position and heart rate data from my Garmin Instinct watch, which was harder than I would have hoped. I'm currently capturing what the watch is sending to the Garmin LiveTrack site, meant for your friends and family to be able to track you as you are exercising. Based on that I created a very simple game where you are normally supposed to use no assistance, and you get points at a rate determined by your heart rate. When you have collected 10 points, you can use the "boost" feature, which means you can use assistance for two minutes. Your goal is to get to wherever you are going as fast as you can.

It's not a very fun game as it is, but it was a quick proof of concept. I realized that the amount of information on the screen needs to be MINIMAL, because it's hard to see it with the sun glaring, and it's also not great for safety to be staring at the screen.

I'm also getting telemetry data from the bike itself. The bike has a Bosch electric motor, which sends its data live to the Bosch Flow app on my phone through Bluetooth. Through a MANY hoops, luckily already figured out by RobbyPee, I was able to capture the Bluetooth data the motor is sending to the app, and using it in the web app for the game in real time. Basically what this give me is information like the amount of power I'm producing when I'm pedaling, how much the bike is assisting, which assistance mode is on, etc.

For the future of the game, I'm thinking that I'd like to use the 5 assistance modes as a control for the game, because I can track those, and they are physical buttons that are easy to press. The remote for selecting the mode looks like this, and the LED color tells which mode you are on:

Maybe you build something or train a character, and then at the end you get evaluated against a boss or something? Slay the Spire has that kind of thing, except the end numbers don't mean much, I think.
Given that I get cadence and power in watts, I could use those for strength and attack speed? Could do some interesting stuff with audio there too. Small enemies faster cadence less power?
Not being able to look at the screen is tricky. It would be nice if the game incentivized you to look around yourself too. Use the environment to your advantage. So not super interactive in that you would be killing specific enemies with different attacks.
Every now and then maybe you enter a new room, and you choose which path you take with the modes? And based on your performance you get unlocks?
Communication will be difficult because there can't be text. Very large icons only.
There don't need to be 5 choices every time lf course, could be less. Maybe 2 or 3? Colors clearly show the levels too
Maybe you get gear after each room? Your performance determines quality or number or probability distribution for those? Then you'd choose a room based on what piece you want to upgrade. Tiny rogues style.
Straight up upgrades are a bit boring. It would be nice if things are good or bad depending on the circumstance. Either what kind of workout you want or the build you want for you character. Maybe it would be nice if it was linked to the workout. I think that's where things should be grounded.
